Home / PayID Payment Pending
PayID payments are usually instant, so seeing pending or on hold in your banking app can be worrying. In most cases the payment is simply going through a bank security check. This guide explains why PayID payments get held, how long it can take, and what to do if you were topping up your IW99 account.
PayID payments run on Australia's New Payments Platform, which normally moves money in seconds. When a payment shows as pending or on hold, it is almost always your bank pausing it, not the payment failing.
This is the most common reason. Many banks hold the first payment to a PayID you have never paid before while they run a security check.
Banks screen payments for scams. A payment that looks unusual for your account, such as a larger amount than normal, can be held for review.
Your bank may limit how much you can send to a new payee or by PayID each day. Payments over the limit can be paused or declined.
Occasionally a bank's systems are slow or under maintenance, which can delay real-time payments for a short time.
It depends on your bank. Some security holds clear within minutes, while others can take longer, in some cases up to a day for a first payment to a new payee. Your banking app or your bank's help pages will show its own rules.
Once your bank releases the payment, it is sent in real time as normal, and your IW99 deposit is credited after it arrives.
Open the payment in your transaction list. Pending or on hold means your bank is still checking it.
Some banks send an SMS, email or app notification asking you to confirm the payment. Confirming it can release the hold straight away.
Sending a second payment does not speed things up and can lead to two transfers once the hold clears.
Only your bank can release a hold on its side. Call or message them and ask about the payment.
Send your payment receipt to our 24/7 live chat so we can match the deposit as soon as the money arrives.
